Lutterworth College

The 1610 Initiative/Super-Curricular

The 1610 initiative at Lutterworth Sixth refers to the additional support offered to students applying, in Year 13, to early deadline university courses, such as Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science, and Oxbridge, and has also been extended to include support for students applying for related competitive courses, such as Paramedic Science and Nursing.

Students are provided with a programme of workshops, practical application support, one-to-one assistance with personal statements and admissions tests, and outreach support from universities such as Oxford, in addition to the thorough assistance already provided by mentors and the Sixth Form Leadership team throughout the UCAS process.

Below a flow chart can be found of the 1610 process and support package which students will follow.

There are also links to assistance with building super-curricular knowledge. Super-curricular experience is an essential ingredient of any early deadline or competitive course application as it illustrates student knowledge and experience outside and beyond the curriculum, and a genuine interest in, and commitment to, a chosen university course. Students may choose to read relevant books, take relevant online courses, visit museums, listen to podcasts or watch documentaries to further their immersion into their chosen study area. A broad super-curricular knowledge and experience is an essential component of an early deadline or competitive course application but, as per the assembly students receive in Year 12, we would also encourage all students applying to university to make use of these resources, in order to strengthen their application.
