PSHE
At Lutterworth College, PSHE supports the holistic development of every student, enabling them to grow into confident, responsible and compassionate young people. Rooted in our Church of England ethos, the curriculum nurtures intellectual, moral and personal development, equipping students to make informed choices, build healthy relationships and contribute positively to society.
PSHE prepares students for life beyond school by developing the knowledge, skills and personal qualities needed to thrive in a modern, diverse world. Through real-life contexts and a dedicated Living in the Wider World focus, students build essential employability skills such as communication, teamwork, resilience and sound decision-making. Practical learning in areas including CV writing, interview preparation, careers and financial literacy ensures students are well prepared for future education, employment and training.
The curriculum promotes diversity, inclusion and social justice, enabling students to recognise inequality, challenge discrimination and understand the structures that shape society. Through the study of citizenship, relationships and contemporary issues, students develop critical thinking skills and learn to engage respectfully with different perspectives. Lessons are delivered in a safe, supportive environment where students feel able to explore complex and sensitive topics thoughtfully.
PSHE also affirms the intrinsic value of every individual. Students are supported to understand that their worth is rooted in their identity and character, not achievement or comparison. Through learning focused on wellbeing, identity and relationships, students develop self-respect, resilience and a secure sense of self, promoting positive mental health and mutual respect.
Overall, PSHE at Lutterworth College is more than a subject; it is a foundation for life. Through a curriculum grounded in strong values, practical skills and essential knowledge, we empower students to enter adulthood with confidence, integrity and the ability to thrive in a changing world.
We work alongside our Church of England CHRIST values to enrich how our students experience PSHE, preparing them for a life outside of education. Students are able to demonstrate these values at various points across all years in the following ways:
- Being Courageous through debating themes and issues, voicing their opinions and beliefs in a compassionate way
- Being Hardworking when completing written tasks and questions to the best of their ability using source material and applying topical knowledge gained in the lesson
- Being Reflective throughout each lesson, challenging their own views and opinions of themselves and the society around them
- Being Inspirational through public speaking, voicing and creating new ideas and strategies to tackle issues that impact members of our community and wider society
- Being Supportive during group discussion, showing compassion to their peers and to the themes and issues explored
- Being Tenacious in the way they approach topics that challenge their opinions and way of thinking
